The announcement was tucked in between the bills and the flyers. It was a mass-produced, colorful invitation. It didn’t matter; the same sensation seized him. Sarah's hands became icy. The world seemed to tilt.

She stared, paralyzed, at the glossy paper. The past, a dormant volcano, began to rumble deep within her. It had been so long. Too long. She wasn't ready.

She dropped the invitation, as if it were a burning coal. Her breath came in shallow, ragged gasps. She felt pinned, stuck in a moment she couldn't escape, or confront. The phone rang. She let it.
