"And the winner of the Golden Whisk Award is… the 'Velvet Kiss' chocolate mousse!" The announcer's voice boomed over the speakers, and Clara could only stare, mouth agape, as a woman in a chef's jacket gracefully walked onto the stage. The "Velvet Kiss" was her signature dessert, the recipe she'd perfected over years, the one she'd poured her heart and soul into.

Her vision blurred. The vibrant colors of the awards ceremony seemed to drain away, leaving a gray haze. She felt a strange buzzing in her ears. How? This was a national competition! There were thousands of contestants. It was impossible.

She gripped the edge of her seat so hard her knuckles turned white. The other contestants offered congratulations, but Clara could only manage a strained smile. Her smile felt alien on her face. The taste of defeat, thick and metallic, filled her mouth.
