The doorbell rang. Sarah opened the door to find a delivery man holding a long, narrow package. "For Mr. Henderson," he announced, voice devoid of expression. Her breath hitched. Mr. Henderson hadn’t lived there for a year. Her eyes darted around the familiar surroundings, suddenly alien.

She took the package, the weight of it surprisingly heavy in her arms. A sense of unease settled into her bones. Her fingers went numb. The air in the hallway seemed to thicken, making it difficult to breathe.

She slowly closed the door, her heart thudding in her chest like a trapped bird. She felt a profound sense of foreboding, a certainty that something was profoundly amiss.
