He’d waited years for this moment. For the new Cormac Riley book. Finn had pre-ordered the hardcover, and as he started reading, his grip tightened around the book. The words… They were his words. Or, close enough.

He felt the blood drain from his face, leaving him feeling hollow. He gripped the book tighter, knuckles white. His pulse hammered against his temples. He read the next few pages, then skipped ahead, his heart thudding in his chest like a trapped bird.

Finn slammed the book shut, the sound echoing in his otherwise quiet apartment. He stumbled to the window, needing air, needing anything to make the churning in his stomach subside. Outside, the world seemed to continue on, oblivious to the fact that his universe had just imploded.
