The screen flickered. The accusations against the author, Iris Thorne, hung in the air. Leo, eyes glued to the screen, felt the familiar ache in his chest. His own work. Plagiarized.

He let out a short, choked sound. He pushed the laptop away from him and rested his forehead on the cool surface of his desk. He wanted to scream. He wanted to break something. His hands clenched into fists, the nails digging into his palms.

He lifted his head, a single tear tracking down his cheek, then he slammed his fist on the table. The noise echoed in the small room. He looked at the window; the world went on, oblivious to the fact his literary hero was a fraud.
