The weight of the silence in the bustling supermarket was crushing. David stood frozen, his groceries forgotten in the cart. He had seen Mark, his childhood confidante, browsing the produce aisle. A quick hello, a warm embrace, was all he'd expected. Instead, Mark looked at him with an utter blankness. "You… you look familiar," Mark said, tilting his head. "But I don't think we've ever met."
