The vibrant colors of the carnival seemed to fade into a dull gray as Ethan stared at her, his expression a polite blank. He had been thrilled to hear from Chloe, his childhood friend, so many years after they had lost touch. Now, he asked the dreaded question, "Chloe? What are you talking about?"
