The room seemed to shrink around him. Mark had always considered his family to be honest and respectable. The pictures in his hands were a different story.

His ancestor, the family patriarch, was shown with several men. They were wearing expensive suits. They were standing outside a grand building. Their faces were hidden behind large hats. He read about the building in a book as a child. It was a secret society.

Mark’s legs gave way, and he sat down heavily on the floor, the album now resting on his lap. He felt a deep sense of disorientation. The man he thought he knew, the values he held dear... gone.
