The text message arrived like a warning. "Hey, saw your tweet about the history test lol - Mr. Evans." My breath caught. I reread it, my eyes scanning for any hint of emotion, of judgment. There was nothing. Just…a lol.

I felt a strange, disoriented sensation. Everything suddenly seemed absurd. Mr. Evans, the notoriously strict history teacher, was *texting* me? I quickly glanced around my room, as though checking to see if someone else was in here with me.

I tried to respond, but my fingers fumbled on the keyboard. My mind was racing. How should I react? Should I play it cool? Act oblivious? The possibilities, the potential implications, swirled around me like a dizzying vortex. I set my phone down.
