"Well, that's just perfect," she muttered, the words barely audible. She stared at the email, the words swimming before her. “Strategic partnership… integration… restructuring.” It was all corporate doublespeak, designed to mask the simple truth: her job was probably gone. Her hands began to tremble.

She fumbled for her phone, intending to call her sister, but her fingers refused to cooperate. The room seemed to shrink, the walls closing in. The cheerful posters on the wall, the team photos, the awards – they now felt like relics of a bygone era. She felt a burning sensation in her throat.

She pushed back from her desk, the chair scraping loudly against the carpet. She had to get out, she just had to. She wanted to scream, to lash out, but all that came out was a shaky sigh.
