"Are you serious?" Tanya blurted out, her voice cracking. The sudden plunge, the screeching halt - it was all too much. She pressed her hand to her chest, as if to calm her racing heart. She hadn't expected to share this experience with David, her office nemesis.

She felt a wave of cold wash over her, followed by a sudden flush. Her vision blurred, and the elevator seemed to sway. She squeezed her eyes shut, taking a deep breath. She had to stay calm.
