He stared at the document, the light reflecting off the cold, hard glass of his office window. It was his father's, and in it, his father described leaving his job for a purpose, for a mission. A mission that was never mentioned. The details of the leaving was a painful summary of unkept promises, of ambition and betrayal.

The details of the letter were brutal. His father had never mentioned his own feelings. He’d lived his life for them, never speaking of his own desires. He couldn't speak.

He closed his eyes. The city sounds, the constant drone of traffic, the distant sirens – all of it seemed to amplify the silence inside him. He ran a hand over his face. The office felt suddenly vast, empty, like a tomb.
