The damp, musty smell of the antique store clung to the letter as it slipped from its envelope. It was a letter of resignation from a teacher. The letter was from his father. It revealed a deep disappointment, a loss of belief in the system. Daniel's breath caught in his throat.

He had always thought his father had loved teaching, had been fulfilled. The words painted a different picture: disillusionment, a feeling of being stifled. The weight of it settled in his chest.
