He stared at the email on his phone, the words swimming before his eyes. Across the country. Boston. The notification chime, usually a comforting sign, now sent a jolt of anxiety through his system. The image of the apartment, the shared laughter, the late-night talks, all flashed before him in vivid detail, making him feel as though someone had removed the very air around him.
