Gemotions

The telephone rang, and Maya automatically reached for it. It was a man's voice on the other end, formal and composed. He was reading, slowly, from a document. Maya didn't interrupt.

She listened, her face going still. The color drained from her cheeks, leaving her looking pale and fragile. She remained silent throughout the call, her grip tightening on the receiver until her knuckles were white. When he was done, she slowly hung up the phone. Her legs gave way and she sunk to the ground.
