He gripped the counter of the coffee shop, trying to steady himself. "Dr. Jessica Miller, Licensed Professional Counselor." The name swam before his eyes, a dizzying collection of letters. *Jessica Miller*. The girl who had made his school life a living hell. The woman who had reveled in his torment.

He felt an odd pressure in his chest, as if someone had placed a heavy weight there.

He turned, almost mechanically, and started walking toward the address on the slip of paper. His legs felt shaky.

The door to the office was open. And there she was. Sitting behind a desk, looking at him with an expression of professional composure. “Michael? Please, come in. I’ve been looking forward to meeting you.” The air was suddenly thinner, harder to breathe.
