The campus radio announcer's monotonous voice grated on Elias’s nerves. He was sitting in the library studying, but now all he could do was sit and stare. The words "financial difficulties" and "abrupt closure" echoed in his ears, a relentless drumbeat.

His hands clenched into fists. He slammed them on the table, the action sharp and defiant. A nearby student flinched. He stared blankly at the text in front of him, the letters swimming and blurring. He felt a profound sense of disorientation, the ground shifting beneath him. The familiar scent of old books and coffee seemed to mock him.
