"Condo... really?" Maria said to herself, her voice barely audible. Her hand trembled as she placed the letter on the kitchen table, her gaze fixed on the words. She’d been enjoying a quiet morning with a cup of coffee. Now, the beverage sat cold and untouched.

She walked from room to room, touching the furniture, the objects that defined her life. The worn armchair in the living room, the collection of cookbooks in the kitchen, the paintings on the walls – suddenly, these items felt less like comforts and more like burdens.

She opened the window and looked out at the street below. The world, usually a source of endless possibilities, now seemed hostile and unwelcoming.
