The aroma of freshly baked bread, usually a source of comfort, was tainted by the sound of drilling. The Bakers, just next door, were “re-landscaping their backyard.”

He let the screen door slam shut and marched outside, hands in his pockets. They’d been so enthusiastic in their planning, sharing colorful brochures and ambitious designs. He, however, was already feeling a sense of foreboding.

He paused and looked out at the work site. He knew from experience. This “re-landscaping” was going to be a disaster. He could already picture the extra noise and extra traffic. The promise of beauty, he suspected, was just a facade.
