Gemotions

The dusty window, reflecting the afternoon sun, obscured the ring. Daniel squinted, a frown etching across his brow. The setting, the cut of the diamond… it resembled the ring he’d heard so many stories about. Still, he took a deep breath.

He walked into the shop. The bell above the door jingled, the sound echoing in the silence. The shopkeeper, an older man with a long white beard, looked up from his newspaper. "Looking for something?" he asked, his voice slow and deliberate.

“That ring…” Daniel pointed, his finger trembling slightly. The man reached for it, and as he did so Daniel’s gut twisted. He had heard the story so many times. His grandmother’s ring. But the odds of this were too low.
