Gemotions

The flyers promising a "more beautiful community" lay on the kitchen counter, next to the bills. Emily glanced at them, a knot forming in her stomach. She knew what they were selling.

She walked outside, looking at the view: green lawn, the neighbor's kids playing, the dog running around. Why this fence? What was the problem that they were trying to solve?

She pictured the construction, the noise, the disruption. She felt a familiar weight pressing on her chest, a sense of impending change she wasn't ready for. She'd rather not. She'd put it off.
