Gemotions

I sat across the desk from Mark, my new trainee. The name felt like a betrayal. I, Arthur, had been working in this position for seven years. I had been planning to be here for another seven. The company's decision was a disappointment.

"Okay, Mark," I said, forcing a smile. "Let's begin with the invoicing process." I showed him the system, a complex web of forms and protocols. I moved with deliberate slowness.

I deliberately left out the shortcuts, the insider information. I was not going to make it easy for him.

Mark asked many questions, but I answered with vague responses. The atmosphere grew thick with unspoken feelings. I felt the urge to stand up and leave.
