The office party was the breaking point. Held in a lavish penthouse with panoramic city views, it was the pinnacle of David's boasted success. As he regaled her with a particularly colorful description of a meeting with a Saudi prince, Emily felt a distinct clench in her stomach.

She excused herself and drifted towards the bar. The drinks were overpriced, the canapés were tiny, and the air was thick with the scent of expensive cologne.
