Gemotions

The office Christmas party was in full swing, and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. Except, perhaps, for Chloe. She saw her friend, Jessica, across the room. She had been explaining to her how she worked for a major marketing agency, a job that she always seemed to exaggerate about. She’d claimed a promotion earlier in the year.

Jessica, dressed in a designer dress, was chatting animatedly with a group of people Chloe didn't recognize. Chloe walked over, a polite smile fixed on her face.

“Hey, Jess! Having fun?” Chloe asked, her voice light.

Jessica turned, beaming. "Chloe! Yes, absolutely. These guys are talking about a major campaign launch, you know, the big one I've been leading."

Chloe looked at the people around her. They all seemed a little too important. Her stomach felt heavy. She wished she had never come.
