The thought of Ms. Henderson filled Carol with a sense of dread. She’d been a nervous wreck all day. It seemed impossible. But there it was. Her daughter, Amy, was in the very same class. And Ms. Henderson's teaching style had been a disaster for her own childhood. She was certain of it.

Later, she hovered outside the classroom door, listening to the muffled sounds of the lesson. It was exactly as she remembered. The tone of Ms. Henderson's voice. The familiar cadence. It was all too reminiscent of a past she’d rather forget.

Her palms began to sweat. She wanted to yell and run. To whisk Amy away. Instead, she took a deep breath and walked in.
