"The best summer ever!" declared Jessica, beaming at him. David took another bite of his sandwich, his expression neutral. They were reminiscing about their shared summer working at a seaside resort. He didn't feel the same.

She recounted tales of wild parties, secret romances, and unforgettable sunsets. He thought of long shifts, demanding customers, and the constant smell of chlorine.

He listened to her stories, a knot forming in his stomach. Her version of events seemed… unreal. He recalled a summer of tedium, not the stuff of legend. He considered questioning her, but something stopped him. He could almost feel her disappointment if he didn't confirm her version.
