The old yearbook lay open, the faded photographs mocking him. Across the kitchen table, Marie was practically bouncing with excitement. "Remember senior prom, Greg? It was amazing!" He picked at the label on the orange juice carton.

He recalled a rented tuxedo that was too tight, a dance floor packed with sweaty teenagers, and the crushing disappointment of being unable to ask his crush to dance.

Marie was gushing about a night of romance, dancing, and perfect moments. He was starting to feel a dull ache in his chest. Her memories felt… manufactured, as though she was trying to force a certain narrative. He wondered if she was even talking about the same prom.
