The email shimmered in Amelia’s inbox, subject line: “Your Article: Published!” Her fingers hovered over the mouse, a cold knot tightening in her stomach. “Congratulations, Amelia! Your piece, ‘The Unseen Symphony of the City,’ is live on CityLife Magazine’s website!” Her name, however, wasn’t listed as the author. A quick glance revealed the byline: “Byron Davies.”

Amelia ran a hand through her hair, the movement jerky and unsure. She’d sent that article in weeks ago. She’d poured her heart into it, capturing the city’s pulse through its unnoticed sounds. This was her big break. Now, a stranger was taking the credit.

She clicked the link. The words were hers, no question. The layout, the font, even the slightly off-kilter spacing she always preferred… all there. But Byron Davies? Her jaw clenched. She needed proof. Every email, every draft, saved. A wave of heat washed over her face.
