Gemotions

Rain lashed against the window of David's apartment, mirroring the turmoil in his chest. His sister, Sarah, was calling. A surprise party. He didn't *believe* it, not entirely. It sounded too good to be true. He picked up the phone.

“David? Hey, it’s Sarah. Listen, something’s…come up.” Sarah sounded flustered. David’s eyes narrowed.

He closed his eyes, inhaling slowly. He knew this was the moment. The gut feeling he’d had all along was probably right.

“Oh?” he replied, his voice deliberately neutral. He could picture her, red-faced and twisting a strand of hair.

“We’re going to have to reschedule the party, darling. The venue…problems.” It was vague, like he'd suspected. He opened his eyes, staring out at the grey, rain-soaked city. The building across the street looked bleak.

He simply nodded, the corners of his mouth turned downwards. “Of course.”
