He was only there to drop off some old books, helping a friend. He wasn't browsing, he told himself. But his feet led him to the toy section. And there it was. A battered teddy bear, remarkably similar to the one he had named Rupert. He remembered the bear having a rip on its side, and sure enough, this bear did, too.

He felt his brow furrow. "How much?" he asked, attempting to sound casual. The man, standing behind a table piled high with trinkets, looked up and named a price. It seemed too good to be true. He picked up the bear, turning it over in his hands. It felt… flimsy. Not substantial. He had a feeling it was just a coincidence.
