The doorbell rang, a sharp, intrusive sound that echoed through the quiet apartment. David peered through the peephole. A delivery person stood there, holding a large, rectangular package. "For... uh, Mr. Thomas Finch?" the delivery person asked, their voice muffled by the door. "Says here he still lives here."

David frowned. Finch hadn't lived here for over a year. He told the delivery person to leave it. As he watched the delivery person walk away, a nagging voice in his head urged him to examine the box. He shut the door and took a breath. He returned to the door, hesitantly, and retrieved the package.
