The library, once their shared sanctuary, now felt alien to Alex. Liam, now a renowned writer, sat across from him, recounting stories of their childhood adventures within its walls. But as Liam reminisced, Alex felt a growing disconnect.

The books they supposedly read together, the secret hideaway they shared among the shelves, even the librarian's name – none of it resonated with Alex’s memories. He kept his gaze fixed on the table, avoiding Liam’s eyes.

He slowly and deliberately picked up a pencil, turning it over and over in his hands. "That's… interesting," he finally managed, his voice barely audible.

Liam beamed. "Yeah! Good times, eh?"

Alex didn’t respond. He simply continued to examine the pencil, finding solace in its familiar form.
