Gemotions

The radio blared from the kitchen, and it took a moment for Maya to recognize the melody. Her song. It was her song, or at least, it was supposed to be. She froze, spatula halfway to the counter.

She listened, her lips pressed into a thin line. The singer's voice was strong, maybe even better than hers. But the feeling…it was hollow. A watered-down version of what she'd intended.

She flipped the omelet, the action jerky and uncoordinated. She’d always imagined it like this, a moment of triumph. But now it just tasted sour. She turned off the radio, feeling a strange mix of annoyance and… indifference.
