Gemotions

The news seemed to suck all of the air out of the room. The email, so carefully constructed, felt like a tombstone to my aspirations. I couldn't bring myself to even open the file. I kept clicking back and forth from my inbox, to the browser, to the email to my manuscript, as if it were a physical object. I felt a chill run down my spine, even though the sun was shining brightly through the window. The words, though carefully chosen, seemed to have an edge of finality to them. I sat at my desk, still and rigid, staring at the screen, as if I could will the situation to change.
