Gemotions

The metallic tang of fear filled the air. "It'll be fine," I told Sarah, my voice sounding tinny and false even to my own ears. I knew better than to be optimistic about our situation. This building was a wreck, always had been. The shoddy construction, the overworked staff, it was a recipe for disaster.

I eyed the control panel, assessing the situation. None of the buttons seemed to be working. I had a bad feeling. The air felt heavy, and it was hard to breathe. "Someone will get us out," I repeated, but this time it was more of a question, a plea, than a statement of fact.

Sarah was starting to fidget, pacing back and forth. I watched her, but couldn't seem to gather any relief. "I hope so," she said, her voice shaking slightly. I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself. I didn't believe for a second that this was a quick fix.
