He’d known things were getting bad. But this. This was a step too far. He looked at the notice. Eviction. He was being accused of things he hadn’t done.

He felt a sudden, sharp pain behind his eyes. He slowly sat down at his worn kitchen table, the eviction notice lying in the centre like an unwanted guest. This had to be a cruel joke, a tactic to make him panic.

He shook his head, a wry smile creeping across his face. He'd seen this before. It was all a game. And he knew how to play. He'd call his lawyer, immediately.
