The envelope felt strangely heavy in her hands. Sarah, breathing shallowly, unfolded the brittle paper. It was her grandmother’s, and the handwriting was a scrawl. A resignation letter. Her grandmother, a woman whose entire persona was built on selflessness, had supposedly left her career to care for her ailing husband. This letter… contradicted everything. Sarah's eyebrows were raised, and a small frown formed on her forehead.

The contents spoke of an oppressive work environment, and “constant pressure.” This hardly matched the rosy narrative her grandmother had always spun. Sarah sat down heavily on the floor, the letter’s words blurring slightly before her. She picked up the phone.

She needed to understand.
