Gemotions

The party was supposed to be a celebration, but Mark stood in the corner of the crowded apartment, nursing a beer and observing the scene. Everyone else was laughing, hugging, and wishing Emily well on her move to Oregon. He watched her glowing face, the way she was surrounded by well-wishers, and found himself pulling away.

He knew Emily, he thought. Knew her impulsive nature, her tendency towards flights of fancy. The whole situation felt…off. He'd known her since childhood, and a deep, ingrained suspicion churned within him.

He was surprised when she approached him, her arms wrapping around his waist. "Are you happy for me, Mark?" she asked. He forced a smile and tightened his hug. "Of course, Em."
