The vast expanse of the family vineyard stretched before them, a testament to generations of hard work. Her brother, David, was already planning renovations to the main house, his eyes gleaming with ambition. The will was a formality; the details were all but decided.

The lawyer began to read. David would inherit the vineyard, the winery, and the family name. The future was his. She, Sarah, was to inherit… a single vine. The lawyer pointed towards a lone grape vine, carefully staked and tended, in a far corner of the property.

Sarah felt her cheeks flush. Why that vine? What did it signify? The lawyer's explanations, however eloquent, sounded hollow. The vine. She could feel the stares of the staff. What was she supposed to do with it? Her heart beat faster. She walked to it and touched its leaves. It felt very lonely.
