Gemotions

The doorbell rang, startling Mrs. Gable from her afternoon nap. She shuffled to the door, peering through the peephole. A delivery person stood there holding a large bouquet of roses. *Roses?* She frowned. Who would send her flowers? Her grandchildren usually sent her the generic, supermarket variety.

She opened the door, bracing herself for… something. The delivery person handed her the flowers. A card was attached. She took it, her gaze narrowed. The handwriting was familiar, a clumsy scrawl she recognized immediately. It was from Sarah, one of her more challenging students from years past.

She read the card: "Thank you, Mrs. Gable, for believing in me. - Sarah." The flowers were exquisite. But the words, and their sincerity, felt out of sync with everything she remembered about Sarah. *Believing in her?* She held the bouquet, feeling a strange mix of emotions.
