The invitation had arrived by mail, a glossy card proclaiming a "debutante exhibition." Now, Sarah stood inside the opulent ballroom, her delicate watercolors adorning the walls. She'd never approved this. The sheer elegance of it all felt foreign.

She found herself gripping her clutch so tightly that her knuckles ached. The patrons, dressed in expensive gowns and tailored suits, moved with a detached grace that set her teeth on edge. Their forced smiles and polite chatter only added to her growing discomfort.

She approached a painting, examining the brushstrokes with a critical eye. It looked...wrong. Distorted. She felt a wave of nausea, like something was being taken from her. The longer she stood there, the more she wanted to be anywhere else.
