He knew his neighbor, Mr. Chen, was a retired engineer. He drove a modest sedan and always wore the same tweed jacket. Then, he heard about the art collection. A substantial one, apparently, filled with masterpieces.

His mind reeled. He’d often helped Mr. Chen carry groceries, the man always pleasant, always modest. The disconnect between this carefully constructed image and the reality of his wealth left him feeling confused.

He pictured Mr. Chen's face, trying to reconcile the image of the unassuming neighbor with the thought of his secret life. A feeling of distrust settled over him.
