The email was flagged as important, but Amelia almost deleted it. Another mass message from the university president? Probably another request for donations, or worse, a fundraising gala. She almost didn’t click. Then the subject line, “Important Announcement Regarding University’s Future” snagged her attention. She opened it.

Her breath hitched. Closing? Closing *down*? Right. Sure. This had to be a joke. A really bad one. She scrolled through the flowery prose, the carefully chosen words designed to soften the blow. Budget constraints, dwindling enrollment, blah, blah, blah.

Amelia leaned back in her chair. Her shoulders tensed. This felt wrong. She’d heard rumors, of course. Whispers of financial woes. But closing? After she'd sunk so much time and money into this place? She rubbed her temples, a dull ache beginning to throb behind her eyes. Time to get a second opinion. She would hear it from an actual source, not a letter, before she changed her plans.
