The excavation in the park had been underway for weeks. Liam watched from the sidelines, a thin smile plastered on his face. The announcement about the time capsule had been all over the local news. The capsule, supposedly buried by the graduating class of 1988. He remembered the year, vaguely. He graduated that year, he thought.

He watched the archaeologists carefully lift the heavy metal container. The crowd cheered, and cameras flashed. As the archaeologists worked to open it, Liam’s fingers fidgeted in his pockets. He saw the contents revealed: yearbooks, letters, a mixtape. He found his name, scribbled in a yearbook. He squinted and thought to himself, 'I don’t recall any of this.' The cheers felt a bit distant.
