Gemotions

A wave of heat washed over Maria as she stared at the screen. The news crew had arrived, and the excavation had begun. Her street, her front yard, now the location of a local news story. They had found the time capsule in the park and it looked familiar. A reporter held up a photo. Maria's eyes narrowed as she watched the image.

The photo showed a group of kids, presumably from her neighborhood, smiling with their faces painted and with a time capsule. She remembered the day vaguely, but she felt no ownership of the memory. “Is there any memory of it at all?” The reporter’s voice cut through the air. She remained silent, crossing her arms, a knot forming in her stomach.
