The first thought that flashed through Martha's mind was, "This is a joke, right?" She stared at the flyer, the glossy photos of a sparkling, new lobby.

She knew what condo conversions usually meant: higher rents, a less secure lease, and likely, a new landlord. The prospect brought a bitter taste to her mouth. She could almost taste it.

She reread the notice. "Luxury living." She scoffed. Luxury was the absence of stress, and Martha had been content with her modest existence for years. Luxury was this building she had come to love.
