The silence of the house felt almost oppressive to Liam. He stood in the doorway, suitcase at his feet, the weight of the day pressing down on him. Each small movement required a monumental effort.

"Welcome home, dear!" His mother's hug was warm, but he could barely muster a response. His head felt like it was filled with cotton.

He made his way to his old room, the familiar space feeling oddly foreign. He tossed the suitcase onto the floor, the thud echoing in the stillness. He sank onto the bed, the mattress yielding beneath his weight. His limbs felt leaden, his thoughts slowing to a crawl. The world seemed distant, muted. All he wanted was the sensation of being completely unburdened.
