The afternoon sun streamed through the window, making the already warm office feel even more stifling. Jessica fought to stay focused as she explained the intricacies of the customer database. Her head felt heavy, and her eyelids felt equally weighted. Her successor, a cheerful chap called Kevin, seemed to have boundless energy.

She leaned heavily on the desk, supporting her head with one hand. Each word required an enormous exertion. The paperwork in front of her seemed to shift and blur.

“So, the search parameters… we use…” Jessica trailed off, her voice barely audible. All she wanted was to close her eyes for a few seconds.
