A yawn escaped Ben’s lips, stretching his jaw muscles. Sunlight streamed through the windows of the dugout, warming his face. He watched the pitcher, a blur of motion, on the mound. Coach had called him over. "Ben, I'm putting you in center field today." Center field? He’d played third base his whole life. A wave of disorientation washed over him. The sounds of the crowd seemed distant, a dull roar. The weight of his bat felt like a burden in his hands. Every muscle in his body longed for stillness.
