He leaned heavily against the cold brick wall, the weight of the city pressing down on him. John's eyelids felt as though they were lined with sand. The harsh glare of the midday sun did nothing to alleviate the internal fog he was navigating. He’d gone to see Ms. Evans, his coding instructor, to discuss a particularly complex algorithm, only to find her classroom locked, the door devoid of the usual motivational posters. A knot tightened in his stomach. He’d relied on her guidance, her unwavering belief in his potential. This unexpected absence left him feeling hollowed out, as if a vital piece of him was missing. He just wanted to go home and close his eyes.
